James & Raina's 'Live From Souls Tavern'
Live From Souls Tavern is a monthly webcast where we showcase live acoustic or scaled down 'plugged in' performances from some of the most unique and talented artists around.
The show is filmed from our lounge & studio here Sacramento, CA aka Souls Tavern or "LeGarreta's Lounge".
The idea to start this came from a combination of influences.
Between 2005-2007, while living in Fresno, CA we'd have artists that we would interview for our website Soulsandsounds.com, come over to our apartment for the interviews. Some of them would bring their instruments and end up doing freestyle jam sessions in our apartment living room.
I had the idea back then that it would be great to record these performances as they could have been put together as a CD compilation of some sort for local musicians.
Although the idea bounced around my head several times, I never made a move to take it to the next level until August of 2008, when I came across Chromeo & Daryl Hall performing together on Hall's monthly webcast, Live From Dary'ls House (where Daryl welcomes different artists to his home each month to perform his songs, their songs and miscellaneous cover tunes.)
This show got me thinking again about a way to do something like this for unsigned artists as there are so many talented musicians out there who aren't signed and most likely will not be seen or heard of outside of their small circle or 'scene' of their respective town.
James and I began brainstorming on how we could do this and in October he began constructing our lounge (yes, what you see on the show and in the photos is 95% all of James' doing. He basically built the studio/lounge from ground up).
The quaint LeGarreta's Lounge includes a small stage, sound system, lighting, full bar and seating with an all around 50s Vegas lounge vibe.
My idea was to make this the staging area for rthese different musicians to come by each month and showcase their talent, then film these performances, along with interviews and place them on the web for thousands to see. What better way to promote an artist?
I immediately began touching base with different bands and such whom I thought would be a great fit for this show, which included folks I had worked with in the past and scanning through the different social networking sites for new groups.
Our first show was launched on February, 13, 2009 with Travis Oberg & The Saltwater Merchants.
The current mainstream hits and media in general can often lead many to believe that good talent is obsolete.
Live From Souls Tavern is here to prove them wrong. We hope you enjoy the show!
